Magical Season

The Washington Redskins just ended the 2012 regular season with an awesome win
over their arch nemesis Dallas Cowboys. The win secured the NFC East
title and a first round home playoff game.
This season has been a magical one for
the Redskins, RG3, Alfred Morris, the Shanahans, Jim Hazlett, and the long suffering Redskin fans. This story is so great, with so much drama and so many plot twists, just making the playoffs is an
incredible achievement. I can't help
imagining more from this team. This is
the same Redskins team that had one of ,if not the worst defense in the NFL against the pass.Half way through the season the Skins were on pace to give up more passing yards than any team in NFL history. This is the same
Redskins team that lost two of its best
defensive players at the beginning of the season, Orakpo and Carriker. This is the same Redskins team that lost starting safeties Brandon Merriweather with a knee injury, and Tannard Jackson suspended
Indefinitely for violating league substance
abuse policy. This is the same Redskins team that has lost Cedric Griffin for the last four weeks due to testing positive for adderal, Griffiin has been an important member of the Redskins secondary.
This is the same Redskins team that was
a unanimous pre season last place NFC East team. ESPN the Magazine reported
data from sports betting site AccuScore computer predicting just two wins for the Skins in 2012. Sports Illustrated's Chris
Burke had the Skins at 6-10, and SI NFL
guru Peter King also had the Skins at 6-10. Who could blame these guys? This is the same Redskins team that lost their
number one running back Roy Helu in the offseason due to injury. Through nine games this year it appeared the prognosticators would be right, the Redskins at the bye week were 3-6 and
had just lost to the 1-6 Carolina Panthers.
After the loss the team voted RG3 as team captain. Since the bye the Redskins
have won seven straight rightly viewing each game as an elimination game. The
team responded to the pressure and became a diamond. After the bye the Skins beat the Eagles at Fed Ex 31-6
behind stellar Quarterback play by RG3
with four touchdown passes and a perfect QB rating.Just four days later on Thanksgiving the Skins
went into Dallas and RG3 became the first rookie to ever throw 4 touchdowns in back to back games. The Skins won 38-31. Next up the Skins third division game in a row the reigning Super Bowl Champion Giants on the biggest stage
Monday Night Football. Skins win 17-16
at Fed Ex ,RG3 sets single season rookie rushing record for a QB. In the win RG3 becomes the second rookie quarterback to win on Monday Night Football next to Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw. The Redskins then upset the Ravens in a 31-28 overtime victory that is truly amazing
with about a minute to go Redskins down by 8 ,RG3 moving the team down the field
he injures his knee on a hit by Haloti Ngata . Shanahan who took considerable
criticism for drafting a second quarterback
after drafting RG3, now looks like a soothsayer mystic. At the time Shanahan
cryptically stated that "We have to have depth to win. Hopefully an injury( to Griffin
doesn't happen) but you have to be prepared. I thought it was a steal for us at the position." Cousins with under 20 seconds remaining threw for the winning
score, and ran for the two point conversion to put the game in overtime.
In overtime Kai Forbath who was brought in to replace Billy Cundiff in October kicked a 34 yard field goal to win the game. This was made possible due to another Skins rookie Richard Crawford
who set up the Skins with a 64 yard punt return. Forbath who kicked the game winner also made two other field goals of 48 and 49 yards in the game. All Forbath did this year was set the NFL record by kicking 17 straight field goals to start a career. The next week the Skins travelled to Cleveland for their fith straight must win. With RG3 out with a sprained lcl Cousins was called on again, all he did was throw for 329 yards two touchdowns
and win rookie of the week. Skins won 38-21. RG3 returned the next week as the Skins travelled to Philly to take on the Eagles who started the game with a touchdown after going for it on fourth down successfully three times on the drive. Although RG3 was clearly hobbled by his injury the Skins won their sixth straight 27-21. This set up the season ending game with the Cowboys to decide the NFC East Title at Fed Ex Field in Landover Md. For the seventh straight win
the Skins swept their most hated rival
Cowboys for the season in a 28-18 victory. After RG3 torched Dallas secondary on Thanksgiving, Dallas decided with a less than 100 per cent RG3 they would take away the pass and make the Skins run to victory. In shocking fashion the Redskins sixth round draft
pick from 2012, from unheralded 1-11 Florida Atlantic Alfred Morris culminated
the season by becoming the first running back to gain 200 yards and score three
touchdowns on the Cowboys. Morris shattered the Redskins rushing record
passing Clinton Portis's 1516 yards by 97yards for 1613 yards. How great was Morris, third greatest rookie season in
NFL history behind Eric Dickerson 1808 yards and George Rogers 1674 yards!
RG3's magical mojo seems to be contagious like a Midas touch of good fortune. RG3 has had arguably the best rookie season of all time. RG3 has broken the NFL record for jerseys sold with the year not over until March. The Redskins regular season finale had an overnight rating of 18.3 the highest rating ever for a regular season game on NBC.The Skins have been money for gamblers at 11-5 against the spread, and on every metric imaginable, this year has been already been a huge success,
but with RG3 as the leader there is no telling what this team could achieve.
RG3 has won rookie of the week 7 times,
Alfred Morris, and Kirk Cousins one each,
with Morris a lock to win the last rookie of the week award. RG3 is only the second rookie quarterback next to Marino to be chosen to the Pro Bowl. The Redskins will be Vegas underdogs as host to the Seahawks in the 4:30 pm game Sunday.
The Skins can win this game with a strong team performance ,and more magic from
RG3.
